Ring in the New Year with Turkey

It’s the beginning of a new year—the time when most people vow to eat healthier and make more trips to the gym. Nearly half of Americans say they make New Year’s resolutions, and the top resolution is losing weight. Help health-conscious patrons keep their New Year’s promises by offering turkey on your menu.

Turkey is widely perceived as a better-for-you alternative to other proteins—62% of consumers say it’s healthier than beef and pork. Since 43% of consumers would like restaurants to offer a wider variety of turkey entrées, it’s important to make turkey stand out on your menu. Try advertising your new turkey dishes and offering menu specials to attract diners with healthy resolutions.

If your diners are trying to eat healthy, they may be exercising more, too. This means they need to eat more lean protein. Turkey is a great way to add lean protein to your menu. Plus, it's low in fat, calories and sodium.

Turkey is a smart choice all in itself, but it also works well with other healthy substitutions. Try these menu ideas that use turkey along with other better-for-you ingredients:

  • Turkey Lettuce Wraps—Customize any way you like. Try ground turkey or sliced medallions in place of ground beef. Instead of a tortilla, cut down on carbs by using a large lettuce leaf.
  • Turkey Salad—Cut down on the mayo used to make turkey salad by incorporating other flavorful ingredients, like curry powder, orange marmalade or mango chutney. Crunchy add-ins like raisins, celery and almonds will add texture, too.
